Paul (Movie Review)

Rating: Pretty Damn Good

I’m not saying this movie wasn’t funny, it’s just not as funny as you’d hope. Really, Seth Rogan carries the movie and while I’m a huge fan of Shawn of the Dead the two English guys don’t really amount to much laughs at all. With that being said, there’s a lot of funny parts and a good ending. Think “E.T. for stoned adults”. It kind of follows the same plot line, but is less dramatic than E.T. and more silly and goofy. It’s done with enough style that it’s worth checking out with friends.

What you may not like:

-Lots of dry comedy that doesn’t really add up to more than a slight giggle
-Dead spots that aren’t funny, interesting, or further the plot
-They do this cursing gag that I guess is supposed to be edgy and funny but nobody laughs when it happens, it’s something they beat the dead horse with

Why you may like:

-Seth Rogan really steals the show as the voice of “Paul” and honestly if it was anyone else, the movie wouldn’t have been anywhere near as good
-Pretty cool special effects
-Despite everything I said it’s still pretty funny

Is it worth paying full price for? Eh, not really. It just barely makes itself worthy we’ll say. It’s the kind of thing where if you’re out at night and you want to do something, it’s worth full price. However, if you’re planning to go see it, plan for a matinee. 15 bucks for DVD.

What’d you think?
